West Sussex County Council is reminding the public that shops in South Street, Worthing, remain open for business while essential refurbishment work is carried out at a nearby junction.
Existing traffic signals are currently being replaced and new tactile paving for the blind and partially sighted installed at the junction of Tarring Road and South Street, next to the level crossing.
It has required the closure of South Street to traffic at both sides of the level crossing.
Businesses on the southern end of South Street are open as usual and access to them has been maintained for pedestrians.
The diversion route for traffic is via Poulters Lane, South Farm Road, Ardsheal Road, A24, Teville Road and Tarring Road.
Two-way lights are being used to keep traffic flowing along Tarring Road.
The programme of works started on 8 May and is expected to take approximately eight weeks to complete.
