10am – 11:30     workshop ‘Food and Mood’   lead by Maggie Thorpe

This workshop explores the relationship between what we eat and how we feel – emotionally, mentally and physically. There is no need to have any nutritional background knowledge to take part – the only thing required is a willingness to explore the idea that food can affect our mood. We will look at which foods can cause problems, which foods can help, and how you can easily change your diet to include good mood food. The workshop is presented by Maggie Thorpe, a qualified Nutritional Therapist and Lecturer from Forward Thinking Nutrition.

2:15  – 3:45pm     workshop ‘Art for Relaxation’  lead by Jackie White

An art class that is open to everyone, from those with little or no experience to those more experienced. There will be some drawing exercises with pencils and individual guidance will be given. The tutor will give a demonstration and adjust the exercise for personal ability. Jackie White is an experienced art teacher and runs Art for Wellbeing classes in Crawley and Burgess Hill. Materials will be supplied on the day

10am – Dementia Awareness

Informal presentation designed to raise  awareness and understanding of dementia

11am – Living with Dementia / Equipment for Independent Living
An opportunity to discover how to maintain independent living and quality of life for
Dementia sufferers and their carers

2pm – Local Dementia Services – talk by Tim Wilkins, Service User
Involvement Officer, Alzheimer’s Society will give talk about future plans  for local dementia services

3:30 – 4pm   Garden therapy
Claire Hunt and Lisa Leach, from Breathing Spaces, are experienced in gardening, garden design and Social and Therapeutic Horticulture for older people with specific support needs.

Feeling Futile, Incomplete, Inadequate and ill-equipped to deal with your day?
Learn skills to make you resilient, capable, valued and ready for anything!!

10am – 12 noon. Guild Care Coffee Morning for people with dementia and their families. This is a free event and advice, guidance and practical support will be available from a wide range of organisations including Good Neighbours, RVS, the Hope Group, Age UK Dementia Group, Home Care, Time Out and About/Therapy Sessions by Guild Care, Alzheimers Society and Crossroads.

This event is at Worthing Football Club, Palatine Road, Worthing from 10am – 12 noon.

11am -12.30pm Worthing & Arun Mind celebrate World Mental Health Day
with a Family and Friends event at The Gateway by invitation only.
Presentations and personal stories will be featured on at www.worthingmind.org, following the event.

Cruse Bereavement Care – David Ward will explore some issues around bereavement and loss.

2pm – Labyrinth

This is similar to a maze but there are no dead ends or wrong turns. They have been used for centuries in churches as a tool for healing, a personal pilgrimage. You are invited to pause and reflect as you walk to the centre.

Often people leave a token to symbolise something they need to let go of..

Please bring a pair of socks to wear (some available).

7:30pm film : The Way
This film (12A) begins with a father learning of his adult son’s death. He decides to complete the pilgrimage his son had started. In doing so the father was able to begin the inner journey of adjustment and healing BBFC Rating 12A
