New film puts services for vulnerable people in the spotlight

by Press Officer on 29 November, 2012

A new film looks at two important schemes which help elderly and vulnerable people in West Sussex stay active and independent. The film shows how the British Red Cross ‘Home from Hospital’ scheme is helping people who live on their own during the first few weeks after they are discharged from hospital. It highlights the support provided by volunteers, ranging from simple housework through to shopping and companionship.
The ‘Good Neighbours’ scheme run by AgeUK West Sussex is also featured in the film. It shows how support is given to people who become socially isolated but who need short term help and advice so that they can continue to live independently.
Both schemes are supported and have been commissioned by West Sussex County Council.
Peter Catchpole, West Sussex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Adults’ Services, said:

“This film highlights two of the important services we are supporting to help vulnerable people in the community.
“With a rapidly ageing population, schemes like these will become increasingly important in the future.”
