Bids open to develop ‘innovative’ learning disability and autism projects

Applications for grant funding have opened for innovative projects in West Sussex for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism.

The Learning Disabilities Partnership Board is offering small sums of money to applicants offering new, innovative and creative initiatives within these service areas.

Funding is available for one year only. Organisations can apply for either a learning disability grant and/or an autistic spectrum disorder grant. No more than two applications will be allowed per organisation.

Among projects supported last year was the County Council’s Starburst Arts initiative – a performing and visual arts initiative for adults with learning difficulties in West Sussex.

It received funding from Arts Council England as well as the County Council’s learning difficulties small grants fund for its 20ME12 project to buy iPads and iMacs to develop members’ art and to connect with the wider community.

Graham Tyler, co-Chairman of the Learning Disabilities Partnership Board and West Sussex County Council’s Deputy Cabinet Member for Health and Adults Services, said: “This is a chance for some truly innovative schemes or new approaches towards adults with learning disabilities and/or autism.

“We have seen some truly outstanding applications in previous years that have helped to enhance lives and we hope this tradition will be carried on during this year’s funding round.”

For details contact either service project manager, Mike Smith, on 01903 839071 or mike.s.smith@westsussex.gov.uk or service project officer, Debra Beardall, on 01903 839797 or debra.beardall@westsussex.gov.uk.

All applications must be submitted by 5pm on Friday, January 4, using an application form that can be obtained by emailing the Partnership Board, ldpb@westsussex.gov.uk.
